First Post!

David Collinson was 24 and fresh out of medical school when he took up his first post  as a resident at Sutherland Hospital. That was, he says, “the start of my love affair with Sutherland Shire”. After 56 years as a doctor in the shire – 54 years at Caringbah Family Practice – Dr Collinson retired last week, a day after his 80th birthday. Touchingly, he was afforded a guard of honour as he walked out the door. Dr Collinson, who had lived in Sydney’s north, “joined the community” after his move to the shire. He contributed his expertise to swimming, surf life saving and rugby clubs, is a long-standing member of Caringbah Lions Club, including three terms as president, and has run public speaking competitions for high school students. Dr Collinson was honourary doctor to Port Hacking / Southern Districts Rugby Club for 25 years, and is a life member of both it and Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. His daughter Suzanne was a champion swimmer, and he was an adviser to Swimming Australia on drug control and a drug tester at the Sydney Olympics. Dr Collinson developed a passion for musculoskeletal and sports medicine, and obtained post graduate qualifications. He also made a great contribution in teaching young doctors and, as a fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, brought its ideals to the shire in his training. More than 50 young doctors trained as GPs at Caringbah Family Practice after residency at Sutherland Hospital. Medical students and, sometimes high school students on work experience, also were taken in. Dr Collinson said it was “hard to walk away from a life-time of work”, but he did so with great satisfaction. “I have met many lovely people in the shire – my patients are tremendous people, very resilient,” he said. “It has also been a joy teaching the kids. I have probably trained half the doctors in the shire.” Dr Collinson may have retired earlier had it not be for major surgery for cancer he required two to three years ago. “I was determined to get back to work, and I did,” he said. Dr Collinson and his wife Deirdre have three children and seven grandchildren.
  • . (sorry mod and thanks for the reminder, I totally missed this one and was too excited to submit my first review post!)   Satisfaction Rating: 10/10. Obviously I am 100% satisfied despite some minor shticks. But I mean, this bag costs like less than 10% of the auth price. And the quality is amazing and feels close to the auth.

These media sources are slightly to moderately conservative in bias. They often publish factual information that utilizes loaded words (wording that attempts to influence an audience by using appeal to emotion or stereotypes) to favor conservative causes. These sources are generally trustworthy for information, but may require further investigation. See all Right-Center sources.

  • Overall, we rate First Post Right-Center biased based on editorial positions that slightly favor the right. We also rate them Mostly Factual rather than High due to two failed fact checks.

Analysis / Bias

Post

In review, First Post was originally considered left-leaning due to merging with the Indian edition of Forbes. However, in 2020 they routinely favor conservative Prime Minister Modi and his BJP party with articles such as this 1,200 years of servitude: PM Modi offers food for thought.

While covering USA political news they provide links to their sources, which are credible mainstream media such as Bloomberg, NY Times, WaPo, and BBC, however, they also utilize strong loaded words in their headlines and articles such as: “Donald Trump: An incredibly indecent man, a poor orator and a failing president”. In general, First Post offers left and right-leaning opinions however they rarely criticize and often praise conservative PM Modi and his ruling government.
